NBIG Near Bit Azimuth Gamma Logging Tool

NBIG Near Bit Azimuth Gamma Logging Tool

Tools

The Near Bit Inclinometer and Azimuth Gamma Gauge (NBIG) measures inclination and azimuth gamma in real time, which reduces directional drilling risk by operating above the drill bit. The sensor is positioned very close to the drill bit to provide GR and near-bit slope data. These measurements are used to determine the trajectory and location of the borehole and provide an early indication of lithology changes, thus helping the driller to more efficiently land horizontal wells and drill the “sweet spot” of the horizontal section. The dual connector design allows both sensors to be independent of the mud motor, increasing flexibility and helping to control costs. Using low-frequency electromagnetic telemetry, the lower transceiver, located directly above the drill bit, collects data and sends it to the transceiver located above the motor, while the upper transceiver is directly connected to the MWD/LWD system and transmits the data directly to the surface system via the MWD upon receipt.
